On May 20 and 23, Kate Maietta, a competitive coach for the Crusaders Soccer Club and the College Preparation Program Director Crusaders Soccer, conducted a program for high school soccer players who are members of the Crusaders Soccer Club or the Chula Vista Futbal Club. The meetings were the first events for the College Preparation Program for the Crusaders and Chula Vista Futbal Club partnership.
Coach Kate gave a thorough presentation about her experience and included an in-depth PowerPoint presentation with vital information for players and parents to learn about options to play collegiate soccer and to gain an understanding of how to be successful in navigating the recruiting process.
Both programs included presentations by Danny Alvarez, Kamryn Correll and Juan Barragan. Each presenter played college soccer and is now coaching a competitive team. They outlined their process for applying to different colleges and playing college soccer at various division levels.
Coach Kate commented: “The two ‘College Night’ programs were very well received with parents and players taking frequent screen-shot pictures throughout the Power Point presentation. Parents were pleased with how thorough everything was and appreciated the down-to-earth format which made everything easy to comprehend. My focus was on presenting the information for playing college soccer in a way which emphasizes the importance of finding the right program for each person. I hope everyone took away their needs to be other aspects outside of athletics to round out the college experience. I am excited to see what the future holds for all of these potential student athletes.”
As a follow up to the “College Night” presentations, Crusaders Soccer is holding the first College Showcase Event for Crusaders and Chula Vista Futbal Club players on June 29th. Soccer coaches from a number of colleges, both near and far, will be in attendance to evaluate players for consideration of being offered a position on a college team.
